With the above being said, it surely did attract quite a crowd, spectators and competitors alike, even in the far from ideal weather conditions. First time nervous racers and old pro’s lined up all the way down the back stretch waiting for a run to prove their street “cred” is where their mouth is. The fans, or rather spectators lined up all along the fences watching the power being put down to the black stuff. Burnt rubber and the sounds of hi revving engines filled the air on this high octane Friday night. What a way to start the weekend. Standing on the start line it was nice to see a whole new breed of racers participating, racers I’ve only seen on the illegal scene. Modified and stock alike. Expectedly with the “noob” racers, there were some typical mistakes common with first timers to the track. Guys red lighting, staging with the rear wheels instead of the front, guys forgetting to put their helmets and seatbelts on etc. I wouldn’t blame them, the pressure is intensified so much more compared to dragging it down the road. With the crowd watching, strict marshals keeping you in check, the lights, intimidating burn outs from your competitors, surely this was enough to make some guys buckle. But none the less, as the evening progressed, so did the drivers confidence and technique.
